Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) belong to a group of water-soluble fibers. There are two main types: alpha-GOS and beta-GOS. Alpha-GOS are found in certain plant foods and are not particularly selective, unlike beta-GOS.
In human breast milk, a specific ratio of structurally different beta-GOS is naturally formed. Many beta-GOS ingredients on the market are produced using enzymes derived from mold, or with the help of bacteria not present in human breast milk. While this is not inherently problematic, it results in a GOS mixture with a structural ratio different from that found in breast milk.
That is why we use Bimuno®, which is produced in the same way beta-GOS are formed from lactose in breast milk — by the enzymes of Bifidobacterium bifidum present in the mammary glands. This ensures a GOS mixture with a structural ratio identical to that of human breast milk.
We have blended it only with minimally fermentable, hypoallergenic bamboo fiber to improve handling and dosing convenience.
